Sidereal Music

Sidereal means "of or relating to stars or constellations" (Merriam-Webster), a word that became part of our team's vocabulary for the run of this show.  With inspiration from composer Toby Twining, we chose to use bowed piano recordings to represent Henrietta's determination with  astronomy and appreciation of our universe.  Pictured is Simon Marland, Co-Sound Designer, playing the piano with a home-made bow made of fishing line.  Above is one of our recordings.

Ambisonic Audio

We underscored the three women's working scenes with the sound of a churning, persistent clicking that wanes when Henrietta is interrupted.  The sound itself slowly rotated around the audience using ambisonic audio editing, giving a sense of time passing and the rotation of the earth.
